With a name reminiscent of that “city by the bay,” Frisco, Texas has a charm all its own, known as the “city that plays” or “Sports City USA.”
Here in Frisco, play is everywhere…from golf to entertainment to shopping and more. Play means professional sports, too and Frisco is home to the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars (hockey), Dallas Mavericks (basketball) FC Dallas (soccer), and more.
Located approximately 30 miles from Dallas, Frisco is considered a part of the sprawling Texas Metroplex, named in honor of the St. Louis – San Francisco Railway that used to run through the area.
Still going full speed ahead, Frisco is slated to host the 2026 PGA Tournament as well as open a new theme park in 2026 called Universal Kids Resort. In anticipation of these events, new hotels, restaurants, and entertainment concepts are springing up like Texas wildflowers.
Meet Rexy at the Frisco Public Library, Photo by Mira Temkin
Yes, everything is bigger in Texas and the Frisco Public Library is no exception. The 5th largest library in the state, the FPL is something to see. Formerly a rocket parts factory, you’ll be welcomed into the library by a friendly, larger-than-life, 20-foot Tyrannosaurus named Rexy.
Take the little ones over to Tot Town, a fabulous play space designed to get children ready for kindergarten. They’ll love the vet clinic, train, town market, etc. The older kids will take the challenge of building toys, robotics, and more.
Game on at the National Videogame Museum
Turn left from the library for the Frisco Discovery Center which houses the Frisco Art Gallery, Black Box Theater, and three partner museums: Sci-Tech Discovery Center, TrainTopia, and the National Videogame Museum. Get your fingers ready to play at the National Videogame Museum. Remember pong and the early days of Atari, Super Mario Brothers? Now you can go back in time and play them all. Check out the Head-to-Head Wall where the classics are lined up for competition and the first computers. With over 100,000 pieces of video game hardware, you’ll learn more about the history and culture of video that continue to enchant a whole new generation of gamers.
Kids are King at KidZania
Frisco is the only U.S. location of the international kid-size interactive museum, KidZania and it’s making Frisco a popular destination because of this. A wide-bodied American Airlines jet welcomes kids 4-14 to step inside this zany kids’ world and learn about different jobs through interactive role-playing. Mini-sized versions of popular branded retailers let kids work in the stores, put out fake fires, earn a living, use Kid-zo currency, even speak their own language. Located inside the Stonebriar Centre.
Tour the Star – The Dallas Cowboys Training Camp
A behind-the-scenes tour of “The Star” is something you just can’t miss. Frisco is home to the Dallas Cowboys, considered “America’s Team.” Your tour includes the practice facility, Ring of Honor Walk, Super Bowl Memorabilia, and more. See where the Dallas Cowboys train. Learn about the history of the team and their star players. Take an iconic picture of your family on the field with the Dallas Star. Show your team spirit with some Dallas Cowboys Swag from the gift shop.
Tee Up at the new PGA Headquarters Complex
Frisco is the premier destination for golf in Texas with six 18-hole golf courses, a Top Golf Swing Suite, and more green than you can ever imagine.
If golf is your game, the new PGA Headquarters offers everything you love about the sport. From a Coaching Center to a pro shop, golf courses, driving ranges, and more, this is the place to learn, play, and improve your game.
At the Coaching Center, you can participate in group programming, swing evaluations, private instruction, and junior golf camps. Kids can also get in the game with their own classes.
The focal point is the new Omni PGA Frisco Resort where the game just keeps getting better. Here you’ll find two championship golf courses, a spa, four pools, and delightful dining, all centered around a 500-room contemporary hotel. The Omni even has suites where you can hit the ball out your front door.
The complex also offers family-friendly events like “Fireworks on the Fairway.” Practice your swing on one of the largest natural-grass putting courses in the U.S. called the Dance Floor, a lighted 2-acre putting course. The Dance Floor is even open at night for a summer movie series.
Where to Stay – Hyatt Regency Frisco
I checked in at the Hyatt Regency Frisco and found the hotel to be the perfect location for all things Frisco. Featuring more than 300 rooms and suites, this 18-story hotel offers the latest state-of-the-art amenities, flat-screen televisions, complimentary wireless internet, private bathrooms with bathtubs or showers, and designer toiletries
The hotel is connected to the Stonebriar Centre Mall which is Frisco’s premier shopping destination, filled with retail, entertainment, and dining options. Take a spin on the carousel, go high in the sky with I-Fly or catch a movie.
The best part is there’s a branch of the Frisco Public Library right next to the hotel with free wifi and a collection of books for kids and teens.
Got a Taste for Pho? Follow the Trail!
About 45 minutes from Frisco is the town of Garland which offers a variety of unique experiences. Thanks to the large Vietnamese population in Garland, the city has created a Pho-Trail to whet your appetite for Asian cuisine. Discover almost 20 restaurants that serve the freshest and most savory pho specialties with a warm heaping of authenticity. There’s a delicious noodle bowl waiting for you!
Strumming with Jimmy’s Guitars
While you’re in Garland, head to Jimmy’s Guitars and check out his amazing collection of vintage and rare guitars as well as custom-built instruments.
